Pawtucket Red Sox

April 21, 2010

PAWTUCKET- Tickets, $16. Hot dogs, $2.75. Sitting behind home plate with the family, priceless. A trip to McCoy Stadium to see The Pawtucket Red Sox play is a relatively cheap and exciting outing for families.

“We love coming here, it’s a great family outing,” said Karen DiLorenzo of Cranston, RI. DiLorenzo went to the game with her mother and daughter. She said their family goes to at least two to three games a season.

Heather Chamberland of Rehoboth, MA said she likes what the stadium does for the kids. “It’s definitely a family atmosphere here. All the stuff they do for the kids is really cute, it keeps them occupied and the parents happy,” she said.

The mascots Paws and Sox toss baseballs and t-shirts to cheering kids during innings, smiling fans can get their picture on the JumboTron smile cam and fans can even run the bases after every Sunday home game.

“We like coming here, it’s a nice, clean park and it’s friendly,” said Irene DePalo of Cranston, RI. She said that going to a Paw Sox game was just like going the major leagues for her. “These guys are great. We’ve seen a lot of these guys up there at the Red Sox.”

Just to name a few: Jason Varitek, Kevin Youkilis Josh Beckett and Dustin Pedroia have all played in Pawtucket.

“When there’s a familiar name, it brings more people,” said Jeff Seseske of Attleboro, MA. He

said he’d be more likely to go see the Paw Sox if there was a major leaguer doing rehab there.

“When Matsuzaka was here a few years ago, you couldn’t fit a person inside. It was hard to move and find your seat,” said Chamberland.

In the 2010 season, Ryan Kalish, Daniel Nava, Josh Reddick, Scott Atchinson and All-Star Hideki Okajima made appearances for the Boston Red Sox. All five are on the active roster for Pawtucket in the 2011 season.

They’re great players. We love it here, it’s like major leagues to us it’s beautiful,” said DiLorenzo. She said she loves going to see the Paw Sox because she couldn’t afford going to Fenway and McCoy is a lot closer to her house.

Fans at McCoy can get the fun family Red Sox experience without the Fenway price.
